ljubljana euskal herriaEslobeniako Ljubljana-n elkartaratzea egin zuten abenduaren 1ean Espainiako
enbaxadaren aurrean, 34 gazteen atxiloketa salatzeko, presoen eta Euskal Herriaren askatasuna eskatzeko eta atxilotutako gazteei zein beraien senide eta lagunei "gure elkartasuna eta besarkadarik beroena helarazteko."
"Gure asmoa, idatzitako manifestoa Espainiako enabajadoreari ematea zen baina Enbaxadaren barruan ez ziguten sartzen utzi beraz atezaindariari eman behar izan genion.
Bestalde polizia bertan zegoen iritsi ginelarik eta bertan ginen guztiak identifikatu eta bateri isuna jarri zioten "manifestazio ilegala" burutzeagatik. Demokraziaren eta adierazpen askatasunaren Europar Batasunean debekatua bait dago zure iritzia publikoki adieraztea." Irakurri hemen eta ikusi argazki galeria.

Bestalde, Alemania eta Suitzako 10 erakundek gazteen kontrako operazioa salatu dute eta elkartasuna adierazi eta Irlandako Dublineko komiteak bere azken ekimenen berri bidali digute (eta argazkiak eta indymedian agertutako informazioa...) ingelesez.

reus amics euskal herriaAzkenik Reus-en eman zaitzioan bukaera Països Catalansetan Tasio Erkiziak eta Gabi Basañez-ek egindako birari. 70 lagun hitzaldian eta kualitatiboki ere hango alderdi, sindikatu eta mugimendu politikoen ordezkari asko izan ziren. Ikusi argazki galeria.

recent solidarity events and news in Ireland
Talk given at LASC: The Coordinator of our Committee recently gave a talk at Latin American Solidarity Campaign offices (see photos above).  As well as being a brief history of the Basque struggle for self-determination and account of where that is today, the talk compared the struggles of the Basque Country and of Latin America and gave a brief account of the contribution of Basques to the struggles against Spanish colonialism in the past and against US Imperialsm and local client regimes in recent times.  This talk will be posted at a later date in the Notes of Louise Michel, where our Committee is hosted as a Facebook group (if you are on Facebook we recommend you both join the group and become a Friend of Louise Michel).

Protest and solidarity pickets held in Dublin, Belfast and elsewhere in Ireland over the weekend; also further protests planned in Cork and Derry: 36 political youth activists have now been arrested in the Basque Country and the number of political prisonsers has reached 762, the highest in 35 years.  The Dublin and Belfast branches held protests last Saturday in their respective cities with a good attendance; pickets were also held in Limerick, Omagh, Strabane (see http://www.indymedia.ie/article/94984 for report) and in Dungannon, where the protesters were attacked by fascist-Loyalists and harassed by the PSNI.  Our Dublin protest drew wide political support and included around 40 people altogether.  There were 60 at the Belfast one.

Some projects in hand:

  • Setting a Friends of the Basque Country network of public figures in arts, sports, etc (for that we need to set up a bank account for the Dublin branch)
  • Work continues on setting up a website for the IBSC
  • Organising a delegation of trade unionists to the Basque Country

New branch of Irish Basque Committees: News reaches us of the setting up of a new branch in Limerick (some of the comrades attended the Dublin picket) and will soon be having their first social event).

Upcoming proposed events:

  • Possible anti-repression speaker from the Basque Country in January (awaiting news of availability of speaker, when dates and venues can be discussed)
  • Participation in Bloody Sunday commemoration, Derry -- January Sunday 24th
  • Public meetings, showing of films, anti-repression street protest, music social evening proposed in Dublin for two weeks in February (street protest Saturday 13th -- theme No Time for Love in the Basque Country -- end repression!).  This is the Solidarity with the Basque Country Fortnight and events will also be held elsewhere in Ireland and abroad.
  • Celebration of Aberri Eguna (Basque national day)/ Easter Rising 1916 in Dublin -- participation in 1916 commemoration(s) and later joining in music and singing session
  • IBSC delegation to the Basque Country (each committee branch can send people) in mid-June
  • Basque event in Féile an Phobail,
  • Public information stall in Dublin approximately monthly if enough people willing to help

Help needed:

  • If you would like to help with any or all of the above events please let us know.
  • We always have problems in uploading photos on to our Indymedia reports; if you can help with this please get in touch.  We could also do with some help in electronic poster design.
